A Working Progress

"There is something going on in my part of town..."   Here's a little peek at the progress made on my work with the children's book Magpie.

Obsoletely Fabulous - 127 Format Cameras: Foth, Bencini, Belco and Yashica

The 127-film format is one of many that cropped up during the last century, and all but disappeared after some time. Nowadays the big stars are 135-film and 120-film (220 also, which is twice as much film on a 120 roll). I've mentioned the 620-film format in my post about the Kodak Duoflex TLR, which is the same size negative as 120-film only on a different (and uncompatible) spool. Some great cameras were made for the 127-films. The image size is most commonly 40x40 mm which is 12 images on a roll. The second most common seems to be 40x25 mm which produces 16. A rare one is the 40x65 mm. I got me a Foth Derby 127 camera a while back (in the picture above). It didn't work. They rarely do, I came to realize after some research. That's not strange, really, since they were manufactured before the war, and sported cloth shutters similar to your Canon SLR:s and rangefinders of the 50s and up to the eighties. Glue and cloth ages a tad in 70-odd years. The Derbys with worki...

Black & Bright

I was lucky to find me a Samsung nv7 digital camera for €10 which happened to be really good for b&w photography. The battery was missing so was purchased for €15.   All the pictures were edited for a higher contrast.

Apple-in'

Here's a pdf with a children's short story for Swedish readers.

Bark at the Ages

Smitten Written

Tracks in the Show

I'm currently working on a children's book project called Magpie. These pictures featuring motorcycles are part of my sketching process. Check my ko-fi page getOurArt for updates. The below house will be displayed during the weekend of cultural activities called Vinterspår [Winter Tracks] in our town, on the 2nd and 3rd of February. I will display Home Portraits, sketches and photographs. It's called Winter Tracks for a reason...

Coff-iee Option

If you like what I do here on the blog you now have the option of supporting me on Ko-fi which is a support service for creatives. Many streams turn into great rivers! Buy me a coffee!  That's what I do: I explore photography through using old cameras and through selling them. And I make illustrations! Visit my camera shop getOurBooks on Etsy !

In Rapid Depression

I put my mitts on an Agfa Isomat-Rapid camera. It is (yet another) a camera which uses a now obsolete 35 mm film cassette format - the Rapid. Back in the day you would purchase a film cassette - in appearance much alike the common 35 mm one - which fit into the Rapid system cameras produced by several brands. The film cassette has a peg which tells the camera which ISO/ASA the film is to be exposed at. So you didn't need to keep track of that when loading the camera. In the camera there is also a take-up cassette which collects the exposed film. It is the take-up cassette - which also can be reloaded - that is handed over to the lab for developing. I use the camera mainly with the intention of using it as a cheaper testing/trial camera for square format composition, which usually is the standard for 120-film cameras (middle-format) but is more expensive to buy and develop. Using the Isomat I can expose something like 40 pictures on 35 mm film which I myself load into a feeding...
